I posted a similar thread in the XHA form but I guess my question is'nt exclusive to that camera (although thats what i'm using). who here consistantly films wedding withthe shutter set to 30 while shooting 60i? I have a wedding coming up and the venue will be very dark. Does anyone see any drawbacks to recording the whole thing withthe shutter set to 30. Some have said that trailing may be an issuie. Unfourtunatly, I dont have much time to experiment. I usually shoot under very controlled conditons.

I also use the A1 and H1, you have to change to 30f not 60i for you to use shutter speed 30, and once you change you will never go back to 60i (except for sports) It is so much better for dark venue. You will have trailing problem with shutter set to 30 at frame 60i.

So theres no trailing with shutter at 30 when using 30F? I've only used the 30f setting once. I must admit though, I do like the clarity of 60I

Not long ago I shot a wedding that was dark. I mean DARK! I had a Z1 so I was shooting at 60i and I took the shutter down to 1/30th... and it worked just fine.

Not exactly similar, but we shoot in the 24F mode and often drop the shutter to 1/24 in low light. No ghosting. Below 1/24 and we see ghosting, though.

When you say venue do you mean the reception location? Why not bring in some off camera lighting? I would also say shoot in 24f with that camera.

I thought about brining a light kit but i'm hseitant about leaving it un-maned and I'm not sure how the bride would feel about it. Over the last fewdays I have done some extensive testing using the xha1 set to 60I and 30F. I have found no problems withthis setting as long as your indoors. When Iuse these setting outside, the picture is not as crisp. Iniside thes to trailing or stuttering. Perhaps other camerahave a problem with this setting but it doesnt seem to pertain to the xha1.

We always use an Arri 650 (barn doors) with a heavy metal light stand. I think it goes up 13'. The stand is rock solid and its not going to tip. We use it for all the formal dances and then cut it after that. Photogs love it because it allows a more crisp focus and they can play with the light a bit. We have never had Bride not like it, but we always educate them on why we use it. We tell them it's a soft spread of light, it will really make your dress pop and the photographers love using the light for some cool pics. Tell them when you will use it and when it will be turned off.

We shoot with Mark II's and 7D, which have incredible low light performance but we still use the light for the effect.

FYI,
On most cameras (that can do it), light sensitivity at 30p/30shutter and 60i/60shutter is about the same. On my EX1 light sensitivity at 60i/60shutter is better than 30p/30 shutter.

I am using XH-A1 too. Shooting in 1/30 shutter speed in dark reception hall is fine. There is no ghosting or trailing effect. It gives the most light available. I also notice XH-A1 will pick 1/30 shutter speed in dim environment when set in Auto mode.
