Hi all ,

Needing a bit of help and info. I working on a project at the moment. Filming a sport for a final dvd. I have been filming in HDV as pal. Captured all my footage so far as prores. and we are getting close to the deadline for material. The company i am making the dvd for wants to add some footage filmed in NTSC. This Footage will be filmed in HDV too and about two two / three hours of footage . As raw .

Im am editing in hdv , but the dvd will be in sd. But hdv for a download version.

I have never converted between the two formats before and need to find out the best way to do it. And keeping the hdv quality.

And what sort of price

Many thanks

You'll need to convert your NTSC footage to PAL before editing to avoid some serious workflow issues. There are several threads about converting between PAL/NTSC so use the search and read up on the methods available. Compressor will be your best option to control quality and frame-rate conversion.

Would it be best to convert pal to ntsc or the other way round , will i lose any quality in any of these processes ??

Thanks

PAL converts very well to NTSC. The other way around, not so well. If everyone is shooting 24p, there should no problems. Converting 50i to 60i works with pulldown but the other way results in dropped frames. I would edit in PAL if the majority of footage is in this format and your intended audience is living in PAL lands. Compressor is good for the job but I can recommend the Nattress FCP plug-ins if you want to convert just the footage used in your timeline.

HI , thanks very much , i think im going to head for the plugin , just one thing , all my footage is captured in ProRES 422 HQ 1440x1080 60i 48khz , i watched the videos on the Nattress site and it says i have to choice a NTSC timeline if i want to convert it , from pal ,
But on my video/audio setting in fcp , i choose the above for my sequence , but its doesnt not say PAL OR NTSC or in the summary , i a little confused ? can i still import NTSC and PAL together , ?? Or will this cause problems when i export it , I am planning to export it to compressor for a DVD , , ??
