View Full Version : Shameless Self-Promotion <g>
Ken Tanaka June 22nd, 2005, 01:34 AM Prestel Verlag (http://www.prestel.com/), a prominent German fine art publisher, has licensed several of my images for an upcoming book by Philip Jodidio titled, "Architecture:Art". The book is scheduled for release in September and is already available for pre-order at amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/3791332791).
Be sure to buy (or borrow) a copy this fall!
Boyd Ostroff June 22nd, 2005, 05:51 AM Very cool Ken... congratulations!
Ken Tanaka June 22nd, 2005, 09:54 AM Thanks very much! The images all portray Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa's "Crown Fountain" at Chicago's Millennium Park.
Rob asked if I could post links to some of the images. Here's one (http://www.pbase.com/tanakak/image/34902751) that will be used as a 1.5 page presentation...I'm nervous about where the page gutter will land. <g>
I am told that this one (http://www.pbase.com/tanakak/image/37328477) and this one (http://www.pbase.com/tanakak/image/33193345) will be 1/2 page - 3/4 page presentations.
Bernard Diaz June 22nd, 2005, 05:08 PM Congratulations Ken, That's awsome.
1st time getting a photo published?
Those are great photographs.
Bernard
Barry Gribble June 22nd, 2005, 05:09 PM Great job and well-deserved, I like your stuff a lot.
Ken Tanaka June 23rd, 2005, 01:31 AM Thanks very much, gents...Glad you like the images! I have actually had quite a bit of interest in my work since returning to still photography approximately 18 months ago (after nearly a 15 year hiatus). This has really surprised me because I do not solicit for any sales or assignments and, most remarkably to me, there is such an enormous inventory of images available today.
This will certainly be the first time I've had images published in a fine art book. Honestly, I'm more honored to be asked to represent Jaume Plensa's (http://www.richardgraygallery.com/artist.asp?aID=81) work. He's a very talented artist. Heck, I just took pictures...he designed it!
Steven Digges June 23rd, 2005, 10:18 PM Very, very cool Ken. Images like that deserve to be honored in an art book! Your use of the magic window of light in Early Riser is beautiful.
Steve
Dylan Couper June 29th, 2005, 10:08 AM Congrats Ken!
However, I've secretly been copying your work off Pbase and reselling bad photocopies of it around the world. You wouldn't believe how popular your work is in Sierra Leone!
Ken Tanaka June 29th, 2005, 10:33 AM Steven: Thank you. That's quite a compliment coming from you.
Dylan: So you're the one! <g> Actually, I've recently noticed that quite a few of my images have a lot of "direct links" that I did not establish. For example, this one (http://www.pbase.com/tanakak/image/45251387) and this one (http://www.pbase.com/tanakak/image/45389125) are new additions to my galleries. Within hours of posting they had quite a few d.l.'s...very mysterious. I'm not interested in compensation but I sure would like to know the context in which people are using them. But I've had no luck tracking them down.
Ken Tanaka October 29th, 2005, 01:11 AM Just to follow-up on my "shameless self-promotion", this book, "Architecture: Art", is now available. It really is a very thorough and interesting look at how art and architecture are intermingling in unique and dramatic ways around the world.
