More info on the link. Like the BBCi Player, content will only be viewable by those of us who live in the UK. A sign of things to come I think as TV channels realise that people are spending more and more time in front of computers watching video content - and less in front of TVs!

YouTube to broadcast Channel 4 shows ? The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/10/16/youtube_channel_4_content_deal/)

It's not that hard for none U.K. residents to view the BBCi player, just takes a bit of work. I would gladly pay the equivalent BBC TV license fee to have all of the BBC programming on my FIOS system, but the powers that be will only give us BBC News and BBC America, which just shows the same 8-9 shows all day.

America wants and needs all of the BBC/ITV channels over here, American TV sucks.

Yeah, I've spent a heck of a lot of time in America in the last 10 years so I know what you're talking about! A bit more of an update on this link - looks like BBC iPlayer won't now get linked to the other UK channels on-line offerings...

BBC told it cannot link iPlayer to ITV and Channel 4 - Times Online (http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/media/article6882227.ece)

I am about to embark on obtaining a UK-based VPN so I too can enjoy all of the fine BBC offerings here in the U.S. Mad Men is off, most of my favorite cable shows are in repeats and there is an entire world of better programming available with the BBC iPlayer.

One more thing. If you have a PS3, as of about a month or so back, the firmware update allowed full screen BBC iPlayer viewing on a TV screen. It actually works pretty well - not the quality of digital terrestrial TV but certainly watchable. For non-UK supplied PS3's (e.g. grey imports) I believe the iPlayer icon on the PS3 homepage won't show. In that case, just open up the PS3 web browser and access it that way (ideally via a saved bookmark if you plan on using it often).

This all assumes you've got a UK based VPN of course, either by living here or by the means Dan is suggesting. So, more choices now as to where in the house we watch our (BBC) TV content! I'm no longer tied to the computers/another example of the convergence that's happening!
