Hi everybody,

I have been assigned a new gy hm-700 and a macbook pro with FCE. I am having trouble understanding how to extract the video I've shot into my edit system. Quicktime does not recognize this type of .mov file. I know it must be somethiung simple, any hints?

Thanks in advance,

Glenn

The JVC HM700 by default records files in XDCAM EX (35mbit) in a Quicktime (MOV) wrapper, but if you have an extra SxS card recorder attached (or the new firmware update) you can record in the same format but with a MP4 wrapper. Depending what wrapper you used to record you might act differently. I think you are using a MOV wrapper (files are named XXXXXXXX.mov). By default quicktime can't open XDCAM footage. You can download free PERIAN codec package. If you have FC Studio (not FC Express) you will be able to view it without Perian

What Marcello said, here is the link to download the xdcam package from Perian: Discrete Cosine: Perian for Pro Codecs - Free HDV/DVCProHD/XDcam decoders (http://blog.lib.umn.edu/mcfa0086/discretecosine/164630.html)

download it, and place the package in Library/Quicktime folder like the instructions say on the page, and you will be able to view the .mov files immediately! It works like a charm on my hm100 .mov files, but I have since upgraded from FCE 4 to FCP 7.
