Hi All,

I am in a problem to export my time line to TGA sequence file.

Time Line sequence settings Apple Pro Res 422- 1920-1080
Source file Apple Pro Res 422 HD with simple cuts and trimming, no effects nothing
No rendering signals. Time line duration 2 hrs 15 mins.
Both source file and Target files are to two different external USB drives.
I made a sample export making 5 minute in an out, and it worked taking about 40 minute to
complete. I then marked 1 hour 15 minute put to export. First in showed remaining time 7-8
hours to complete and I left it over night. The next day morning (today) after 9 hrs it completed only 12% and remaining time shows 3 days.
What may be the reason?
Any thought of a solution?

Regards
Rajiv

USB is a bit average in the ol' speed department, is it possible to use firewire or sata?

Hi,
I don't think it is a USB speed limit issue, because the the test export went smoothly
on the same USB drive. Another thing I noticed is that 1st 5% completed in 2 hours
while the last 5% took more than 6 hours. But can't find a reason for that.

Rajiv

There are several things that could cause your project to export slowly:

1. The target hard-disk (HDD) is near-full capacity

2. The project is not fully rendered and is rendering during export

3. The directory of the target HDD is corrupt or largely out of order and needs repair (use DiskWarrior to fix this)

4. The FCP project file has become corrupted

5. The HDD where the original assets live has a directory that' needs repair

6. Your system cache is over-full; the system needs to be rebooted or, needs to be cleaned out (use Onyx for Mac for this).

See if any of these things help.

I think it's #1. Not enough "contiguous" space on the USB thumb drive.

You didn't say it was a thumb-drive, and that's the source of your problem. With exception to SxS and P2 media, flash-based CF/SD/USB drives are not meant to transfer large contiguous files and, they have *zero* on-board cache like a real HDD does to offload buffer data.

I suspect that even if the USB drive was empty it would still eventually become very slow as the large file is moved onto it.

Hi All,

Completed the project (exporting the image sequence) in 3 days.
My main machine is a standard 2.4ghz 09 mac pro.
I completed the project in two machines, the other one is an iMac 2.4ghz.
I copied the project to another portable HDD to connect to iMac.
Total TL duration is 2.15 hrs.I divided it by half in to 2 machines
and again I split each TL in to 3 segments by marking In and Out for Export.
Each machine took almost same time to complete the export. That is about
8 hours to export 22 minute of TL. So total hours spent to export is 48 hours in 2 machines.

The Drives are 2 I TB Seagate SATA 2 Enclosed in Transcend USB enclosure.
Total size of the exported media was around 700 GB on each drive.

Thanks
