I'm about to do the final edit on short film, but need some advice on how to 'treat' the soundtrack. We used two cams with lav mics, but the levels of ambient noise changes form cam to cam and scene to scene. I think it needs treatment. Does anyone have an idea of what to do? I'm thinking of exporting from FCP4 as aiffs, then treating them as a complete entities in Pro Tools LE using a Digi 002, but I dunno if we need to re-record a new ambient track to make the cuts smoother while isolating/editing the dialogue - editing at zero cross points natch - pops 'n clicks be gone!!

The sound was recorded directly - along with footage onto DV - using an XL1s.

Big question, I know ... I might just go out and have a squizz at a book or two. This is my first post, but this site has already been such an asset in making the film so far.

Any offerings greatly appreciated.

Marcus.
