I've never had a problem with my VX-2000 which I purchased in 2001.

My VX2000 developed a problem with the drum, but it was just before the one-year warranty expired, so the part was covered. Since then I've had no problems.

I've had my little vx2000 since 2002 and the thing is as solid as ever. Best 2 grand ever spent. I treat it with care, but I'm sure it could take a pretty good pounding. Very solid cam, maybe not the best image quality on the market anymore but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Great wedding cam.

Ive had my 2k for about 2.5 years or so no problems so far definitely a solid cam.

I haven't had my VX2100 that long. But I still have no problems with it. It's rock solid and sturdy as heck.

Great cam if you ask me.

Just a side note: Make sure you get yourself a nice big battery for it. The stock battery is horrible. I've got an NP-F970 and it's great. It gives me like 600 minutes recording time using the LCD screen, and about 700 with Viewfinder.

This thread is somewhat related, although I suspect these CCD problems are pretty rare:

I had a problem with the power switch on my VX-2000 in VCR mode, which I eventually replaced. One other owner had a similar problem and he researched the fix and put up pictures showing exactly how to do the replacement. I've not had any problems with my VX2100 or my PD-170.

It's small as compared to the earlier model. I actually turned off the camera accidentally -- twice -- while shooting -- the first time with this new model -- and had the blasted menu pop up in my face over the image --- I wasn't used to the size and my thumbs -- the middle knuckle -- kept hitting the buttons.

This is all because of the new pop-out screen -- they had to make room for it.

I say, who needs it?

Best,

RAH [Rick]

Rick, you lost me there. What camera are you talking about? The VX-2100 is the same size as the VX-2000. What "pop-out screen"?

No problems at all with a 2100 over a year and 1/2.

No problems with my hard-used VX2k, now into its 4th year. So good in fact that I happily bought a second-hand one with little more than a casual glance over it. Wonderful tough, solid cam. You can whack the protesters over the head with it and film them whinging.

tom.

Have a VX2k about 2 years, no problems.

A guy came into work to see if we could fix his 2k -- it was eating up tapes... but then again, he got it used on ebay and was slinging it over his shoulder as he walked into the store.

I've had my vx2000 for i think 3 years now. I've found that when i have image stabilization on, sometimes the lens starts moving back and fourth even it it's on a tripod. I've heard this is related to rfi or something like that.

Always turn image stabilisation *off* when shooting on a tripod.

I have treated my VX-2000 pretty gingerly since I bought it in the Fall of 2000. Recently, (last 6 months) my menu dial has developed a short, which makes it very difficult to navigate throught the menus. It tends to jump around a lot, and since it's also a button as well as a dial, I have to be very careful when I press a selection. It's a pain, but so far not worth sending the camera in for a $400+ service call, as I use it infrequently. Other than that, no major problems at all.
