Hey guys - somewhat of a newbie question here.
Decided to finally upgrade my audio options and bought the AT897, the Beachtek 2S and respective shock mounts. I'll obviously be usng the AT897 primarily on a boom, but when I do mount on my cam (gs400), the voices are quite clean, but I am getting a slight higher pitch noise that runs constant throughout.

Here are my settings:

manual audio on cam - no AGC
Mono setting on Beachtek, with both channels turned all the way up (no, turning these down did not help)
Grounding set to G1 (G2 did not change anything)

I know these are difficult to answer on a message board and not looking at it in person, but any advice or experience on settings would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to remove the mic itself from the camera, or more precise, move the mic away from the camera?

Most cameras generate a high pitch sound that the microphones are more than happy to pick up when they are mounted on the camera. Try to have the mic in your hand, 20cm from the camera. Does the high pitched sound go away?

Thanks, I'll try that. I suspect I'll be fine on the boom - I just have a few occasions when I need a mounted mic on the cam. Fortunately, that's rare.

i would try and gauge how far the mic needs to be from the camera to eliminate the audible noise you're hearing. some shock mounts will move the mic farther away from the camera than others. you might be able to get away with a different shock mount for those times you need the mic on camera.
