Where is the setup to get both the LCD and the viewfinder on the PD170.

I believe you will find it as a selection in the Menus.

Go into the menu, and select the 4th option down (it's a little picture of a camera with a rectangle in it). The first option in there should be 'VF Power'... set it to 'ON' instead of 'AUTO'. The AUTO turns the VF on when the lcd screen is closed or facing forward, but with it set to ON, it'll remain on no matter what. But, it does drain the battery a bit faster.

Just got mine last week and I can't get enough of it! Relatives think I'm crazy for lugging it around just to shoot the kids and stuff around the house. More practice for me!
