View Full Version : Z-1 not good enough!

This is what I just heard when I met with HD Net. It seems they have a real problem with the camera unless it is used for 1 second drop in shots. Their reasoning is that they feel the m2T compression is too much. They are afraid that fast pans will not show up right and that low light conditions won't either. I sat and listened while they reviewed a test footage that I had copied onto HD Cam (their choice of delivery) and I just got disgusted with the comments. Who hires these people anyway! I went there hoping to get their blessings so I could start my pilot of music concerts. What I got was someone who read negative comments on the Z-1 somewhere and repeated it verbatim without showing me where on the tape where these problems were evident. What a dissapointment. It was like they had to fabricate issues to justify their decision is not capable of HD broadcast.

If anyone has any coments or suggestions, I would be happy to hear them.

I heard they had a bunch of FX1s at the Mavericks game (Mavericks and HD Net both owned by Cuban) about 6 months ago shooting b rool footage.

Jeff: do a look around these forums. This has been discussed AT LENGTH.
Most people who do not like the MPEG-2 solution have never used one (myself
included).

You should not be too concerned with other people's opinion. Everyone has
one. Instead, if you are looking for a camera, look at your budget. Take a
note of other things you need to buy (batteries, support gear etc.) and
find the best camera for your wishes and budget. Make sure you trial test
the camera's you are looking at and pick the best fit for your HANDS and
what looks best to you.

I'm closing this thread since it has been discussed over and over again on
these boards already and it can easily get out of hand. Please check the
older topics.

Thanks!
