Alex J Ferrari January 9th, 2006, 08:00 AM Hey guys, After all the amazing support and attention BROKEN has recieved, we decided to open a visual effects house that would target the independent film community. We found that visual effect is one of the most over looked elements in an indie film and we want to fill the gap. The company is called "Numb Robot!" Check it out: http://www.numbrobot.com/ We believe that just becasue you have a small budget your project should still look like a million bucks! Our focus will be to bring a high end visual effects to indie features on a budget. We also would do shorts if the project is worthwhile. Let us know what you think of the site and we are currently accepting bids for projects. Thanks again for all the support and we hope to make you project the best one it can be. __________________ Keep your eye on the prize Alex http://www.whatisbroken.com http://www.numbrobot.com http://www.enigmafactory.com Eniola Akintoye January 12th, 2006, 05:06 PM How much do you charge or how do you set your prices. I finally convinced them to stop shooting on weekends and drop all the budget into the shoot. Movie looks awesome and it's going to fests on HDCam. heath Jeremy Hughes January 16th, 2006, 10:44 AM Hey Alex, Recieved the DVD over the weekend. I had a chance to watch it last night. I really dug the effects, look and style a ton! Beautifully done! I had a little trouble trying to follow the story through, it reads as if there is a whole lot more there waiting to be poured out in the feature. Am I right? I thought the acting was really nicely done as well - especially from the lead bad dude (forget his name). Definately a worthwhile pickup - the extras rock! Thanks for all the time you put into the extras - good to share the know-how. The only thing I would have loved to see more of wit the extras was some more info on the lighting - maybe it can be a bonus download from the site - heh. Best of luck on the feature, cant wait to see it! Marc Colemont January 31st, 2006, 05:22 AM How long does it take normally to receive the DVD? I'm waiting for a month now... can't wait to see. Like how the Palm Beach County Film and TV Commission (www.pbfilm.com) handles the Student Showcase. heath Hey Guys, Just wanted to update you on some stuff: FESTIVAL: Film Festival UPDATE: B R O K E N is an "Official Selection" of the Palm Beach International Film Festival in West Palm Beach, FL. Founded in 1996, The Palm Beach International Film Festival (PBIFF) was the brainchild of local business and civic leaders who felt a film festival would offer an exciting cultural venue for the community, be a tremendous fundraiser for film and TV education and would also provide an excellent opportunity to introduce filmmakers to the area's resources. The PBIFF celebrates both the history and the future of the film industry with seven days of world premieres, special events, seminars, feature, short films and documentaries. In 2003 PBIFF became a "Competitive" Festival; joining the ranks of other great film events such as: Sundance, Cannes, Toronto and Venice. The PBIFF has enjoyed a remarkable level a success to date. While competing with over 1500 similar events, PBIFF has created a special niche within the film industry and is listed as one of the top 25 film festivals in the world. Unlike many festivals around the country, the PBIFF has dedicated itself into making a difference in the lives of young people by helping to fulfill their dreams in the world of film. Proceeds generated each year go to the Palm Beach County Schools to provide new technologies for optimal learning in the form of grants and scholarships. The Palm Beach Film Festival will be April 20-28, 2006. For more info goto: http://www.pbifilmfest.org BTW, I am working on another short film....heheheheeeehhhehehe. We are in development with BROKEN the feature but I'm getting the itch to shoot something new. Even if you shoot 16mm, go for the "blow-up" to HDCam. 1. Can someone please explain what the following means: "go for the blow-up to HDCam" 2. Why do festivals want and perfer HDCam vs 16mm? Heath McKnight June 19th, 2006, 04:58 PM 1. Blow-up is actually a term for going to film, but it's not used as much as "transfer to film" or "film out." 2. First of all, very few festivals play 16mm, they prefer digital or 35mm, best I can tell. Second, having a projectionist, especially if it's a union one, costs a lot of money. Equipment costs also factor in (and not all film festivals screen in movie theatres). To go to HDCAM, it costs around $300 to $500; film outs can cost around $20,000 to $40,000. Around 60% of films at Sundance are shown digitally, HDCAM. heath Alex J Ferrari June 19th, 2006, 06:41 PM 1.
