How likely is it? Obviously when DVCproHD was Varicam only then I can see why it's not a feature of FCE, but now that the HVX200 is aimed at the prosumer market, I could see it being a more natural fit.

However, native DVCproHD support seems to be something that Apple wouldn't want to give up as a big incentive to go FCP rather than settle with FCE, but I can see Panasonic wanting DVCPro HD/P2 support in some of the lower-mid range NLE formats to properly place it as a competitor to HDV.

Isn't it interesting how Final Cut Pro and Express tend to leap-frog each other somewhat with regard to supported formats at each release? I'm pretty sure that Panasonic is positioning the HVX at a level above the other competing HDV camcorders, so I don't think they're too concerned about getting DVCPRO HD compatibility into the lower mid-range NLE applications (although it would be nice, no question about that). You could almost argue that since you can put $10K into the HVX and a couple of P2 cards for shooting DVCPRO HD, then you could certainly afford to step up to Final Cut Pro from Express... right?

I'd have to agree with Chris on this one. Apple has positioned FCE as a consumer level application and for marketing reasons has intentionally left out several features which would have been easy for them to add.

even in Imovie5 HD it is possible.
when i connect a HDV camcorder on it it grabs the frames in DVCPRO HD so i suppose it is fully compatible with the HVX 200.

so if you can do it in imovie, i suppose you also can in FCE

That's interesting... but not what Apple claims. According to their website, for iMovie HD Apple says the following formats are supported:

HDV (720p & 1080i)
MPEG-4 (Simple Profile)
iSight
DV
DV Widescreen

And for Final Cut Express they support the following"

Plug-and-play support for most DV25-format camcorders and decks: MiniDV and DVCAM (NTSC or PAL)

Plug-and-play support for most HDV-format camcorders and decks: 720p, 1080i

There is no mention of DVCPRO for either application, so I assume that using it would involve some sort of work-around. Maybe you can be more specific as to how you accomplish this?
