Sony isn't resting on its laurels. Just as soon as they put out the Z1, here comes another HDV camera -or cameras, to be precise. The HDR-HC1 and HVR-A1U, both using a single CMOS chip instead of CCDs. They look like Sony's versions of the JVC HD1.

Nice looking cameras. Wonder how they will perform in low light.

The first JVC cameras were single CCD, these are single CMOS, so it is totally different. These new cameras will record and playback HDV, DVCAM and mini DV.
A question for anyone... in the CCD world, 3 CCDs was it. No replacement for that. In the CMOS world, is it necessary 3 CMOS or that just doesn't exist? (forgive for this basic question)
I've heard that the best digital photography cameras are CMOS based and not CCD.

In the CMOS world, is it necessary 3 CMOS or that just doesn't exist? There's a professional shoulder-mount HDV camera forthcoming from JVC which will feature three CMOS image sensors. It was previewed at NAB2004 and shown again at NAB2005 last month. Should be on the market before the end of the year.
