Which footage would best 1080-60p quality? Would be from 1080-60i HDV, 720-60p HDV, 720-60p DVCPROHD, or 1080-60i DVCPROHD? Let's asume they all have top quality electronics and lenses. How would these system rank? What would be best software for conversion to 1080-60p?

What would be best shutter spped to shoot for conversion to 24-25p? Would be better to shoot 50i/p? HDV would be shot at 19/25 Mbps, not higher rate. How would the quality compare among individual systems?

From what I read in threads, distant HD future will be 1080-50/60p and new Sony studio HD cameras are 1080-60p.

Conversion to 60p would allow slowdown to 24-25p for slow motion, also conversion to future 60p format.

None of those options are great for upressing to 1080p60. DVCPRO-HD at 960x720p60 would have the best bit-rate yet it is only a third of the target resolution. I think direct from the camera head of the new JVC 100U or Varicam to a DDR at 1280x720p60 will give the best results.

For 24/25p on HDV the 50Hz system would be best, then you can shoot with 180degree shutter.

Thank you. How about if Sony, another company would come out with excellent 1080i HDV camera with excellent lenses and you use the uncompressed analog output? How close would be to other caneras for conversion to 1080p50 if there was CCD arrangement like in FX1/Z1, if it would use 1440x1080 CCD's, or if HDAM's direct camera head 1920x1080 output used?

I really appreciate your opinions in this. I don't think there is anyone as knowligable as you in this. If there is, I haven't noticed.

Thank you for the complements. I tackle these issues from theory more than direct practice (although I have some of that), but I can be wrong. Generating 50p/60p from an interlaced source I generally believe will be inferior for scenes with complex motion than shooting at 720p50/60. The horizontal advantage of 1920 vs 1280 is particularly limited by optics to have a big difference. 1920 is better, but not 50% better, not enough to overcome progressive vertical resolution.
