Just heard about this man that uses a giant camera that uses lots of film negatives and the final pic is stitched together on a computer to create a gigapixel image!!! He is part of the Gigapxl project and recently took pics of the space shuttle Discovery and you could zoom in as far as the bolts on the heat shield!!!
