Las Vegas (NV) - While rumors of a possible agreement between Toshiba and Sony on a common future DVD format flourish on the Internet, Toshiba today announced a triple-layer HD DVD that brings the disc's capacity into the range of Sony's Blu-ray media.
Signs that a format war between the two potential successors of the DVD could be avoided received a setback Tuesday with an announcement of Toshiba to increase the capacity and flexibility of HD DVD media. In addition to the already demonstrated single-layer (15 GByte) and dual-layer (30 GByte) discs, Toshiba said it will bring a triple-layer disc with a capacity of 45 GByte to the market.
