Hi,

I am looking at getting a new graphics card as the one I have at the moment sounds like a 747 and only has a single DVI output. I am looking for a card that has the following :

1. 2*DVI outputs for dual monitor setup
2. Passive cooling ie. No fans on the card! (I like my quiteness)
3. Excellent color representation

In the like to have basket... it would be nice it was AGP 8x

I am going to be using it for video editing (premiere / avid) and compositing (After Effects). Good openGL support would be nice but not essential. I might use it for the odd game here and there....

Any suggestions on cards?

Ive written between ur stuff..


1. 2*DVI outputs for dual monitor setup

((most new cards offer this.. as well as video out, however only 2 heads can be used simoultaneously))


2. Passive cooling ie. No fans on the card! (I like my quiteness)

((youll only find this on lower end cards with single head.. also the lower end cards may not have memory heat sinks.. passive is silly consideirng teh amount of time the machine will be in operation.. if going passive, youll need to recompensate the heat thats generated... and the vicinity of the cpu to the gfx card will also become a factor (heat wise) to the cpu
If you can get a good airflow u might be abel to get away with it... ))

3. Excellent color representation

((theyre all good, however Ati have a driver called smartshader which smooths out vieo overlay, also when running a video overlay, it allows you to adjust the gamma to match or come close to a reference monitor... as video and pc gamma is totally different this comes in handy.. ))

((For Aafter Effects and Avid, openGL IS essential... more so with AE, but most support openGL anyway..))

Good luck with the hunt, as for suggestions, an Nvidia6800gt is perfect for what your wnating to do.. on a lower scale a 6600 will work, but running Avid, you might have issues..

oh one thing i forgot to mention, some dual head cards come with one vga and one dvi... in turn needing to run an adapter on the dvi to match the vga sync..
