Is anyone using a Western Digital Caviar SE? If so, how has it worked for you? I'm looking to install one for video editing in my dual 2.5. I'm just wondering if it will fit. The height is 1.028 in. Apple says the dual 2.5 can accomodate a HD with a height of 1 in. Will the .028 make a difference? It seems like such a tiny difference shouldn't matter, but I want to be sure -- this is the first HD I'm adding.

Thanks

I have a 200GB Caviar in my G4 MDD and can't stand it. As far as function and speed, the drive works great and hasn't posed any problems. Unfortunately it is EXTREMELY loud. There are lots of reviews on the net about how noisy they are, and I will back those up. I actually thought there was something wrong with my computer at first. But, after ejecting the Caviar (video drive) the difference was like night and day. Personally, I would lean more towards a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 (very quiet, fast, 5 year warranty) or Hitachi Deskstar (a little louder, but generally slightly faster than the Seagate). Plus, those are what Apple generally uses as OEM for their machines.
As far as drive height, WD Caviars are standard sized 3.5" drives and will fit fine - same with Seagate, Hitachi, Maxtor, etc.

The fans in my dual 2.5 are loud enough as it is. I'm pretty sure the drive that came with it is a Seagate, so I'll check out the Barracuda. It would make more sense to go with a Seagate now that I think about it, so I could raid the drives down the road if I want.
