Sony HDV is 4:2:0 color. When downloading m2t and converting to Cineform intermediate codec for editing, does Cineform maintain the 4:2:0, or does it resample to DV 4:1:1 color?

Bob Douglas Spotted Eagle April 28th, 2005, 01:56 PM Neither. It's converted to a 4:2:2/2GOP file. They have very technical color mapping happening when they do all of this, there is a fairly detailed explanation on the Cineform site, showing the multipass quality of the 4:2:2 file. Robert Young April 28th, 2005, 02:24 PM Douglas Sooooo... the big question for me is: If I shoot Sony HDV, edit in cineform intermed codec, and output from Cineform to m2v DVD; am I going to get a better looking SD DVD than if I shot 1/3"chip SD, edit, and out to m2v??? If it's really true, I'll buy a new camera, if it's just wishful thinking, I'll stick with PD 170s for now. Thanks Bob |
