When are the guides shipping? If I order now do I get the free ground glass?
View Full Version : Micro35 Guide: Where to post questions? Ray Boykin March 12th, 2005, 11:53 AM When are the guides shipping? If I order now do I get the free ground glass? Michal Spimr March 12th, 2005, 06:19 PM I believe they are shipping sometime next week. ;) from what I heard Daniel Skubal March 18th, 2005, 01:14 AM So James, any news on the gg yet? I'm getting so pumped to get the guide! Daniel Skubal March 22nd, 2005, 05:53 PM James, when are you coming back from your trip? I'm starting to develop a wicked twitch for this guide :-p When are you planning on sending them out? I haven't heard anything lately. James Hurd March 22nd, 2005, 06:52 PM Daniel, I'll be back on Thursday afternoon and will get back in the driver's seat the minute my plane lands. So hang in there. A lot of things will start to roll pretty quickly of the next couple of weeks. The GGs were ready as of Friday of last week. I wanted to personally verify their accuracy before unloading them to everyone. So once I arrive and inspect the ggs, the guides will begin to ship! I appreciate your patience everyone! One other thing, everyone that ordered a guide or orders a unit, you will gain access to the member's section of this forum. Here you'll be able to share building experiences with everyone building or have built the micro35 adapter. You will receive an email once the guide has shipped with more information on this member's forum. Thanks again everyone! james www.micro35.com Daniel Skubal March 26th, 2005, 10:28 AM Hey James, how is the gg? Any new updates as to when guides are shipping? :D James Klatt April 14th, 2005, 10:48 AM Quick easy question, since James says the guides are shipping today! Although I have been following this micro 35 development for eons, I finally oredered the guide a few days ago. Is the Pay Pal order form the ONLY thing we were supposed to do in the way of ordering the guides(no other steps involved)? I justed wanted to make sure I as I position myself by the mailbox for a week. James Hurd April 14th, 2005, 11:05 AM James, You're good. Once the website is launched, there will be some more confirmation and invoicing routines. Sorry for the confusion. And good luck! james www.micro35.com Brian Valente April 14th, 2005, 07:48 PM This is not the "official word" but I wanted to start the thread for those of us who are going to be receiving our guides shortly. We can share tips, etc. The race is on for who will post "I got my guide" first! Daniel Skubal April 15th, 2005, 08:10 AM I got my guide!!! Just kidding... did James send out a confirmation via email yet? I never received mine. James Hurd April 15th, 2005, 10:26 AM Daniel, No confirmations have been sent out yet. I'm spending every free minute handling the shipments. I'm expecting two or three days of non-stop shipping. You'll get it! james www.micro35.com Daniel Skubal April 15th, 2005, 11:18 AM Alright, thanks James! :) I just wanted to make sure. Brian Valente April 15th, 2005, 11:21 AM Daniel - my micro35 can beat up your micro35!! :-P Daniel Skubal April 15th, 2005, 11:23 AM haha! We'll see about that! Man I can't wait to get this thing built Brian Valente April 15th, 2005, 11:24 AM Me either - perhaps we can use this forum to share building tips and pictures Mark Kubat April 15th, 2005, 08:14 PM Hi everyone! That's great - I'm really happy to see there's been a key milestone passed - felt like passing a kidney stone, James? Ha ha! :) I'm now wondering, ahem ahem, what the status is regarding pre-assembled units? Or kits? I'm eager to get a micro 35 asap and while I am handy, I'm wondering by the time I'd get my guide and source the parts, would it be faster to get a kit or a pre-assembled unit? Also - the new website preview pics look great - wow, that's a way to stick to the mini35 guys with the XL1/2 pic - that makes me wonder - how has testing gone re: other cams especially say the new Sony HDV FX1-Z1U? Thanks for all your hard work! You (Red)Rock!!! Brian Valente April 15th, 2005, 11:52 PM Dang Mark - will nothing satisfy you short of slappin' a Cooke s4 on the front of that DV rig of yours?! :-P Mark Kubat April 16th, 2005, 07:32 AM Maybe then you could build ME an adapter? :) Brian Valente April 16th, 2005, 07:44 AM wait... no. you build ME one! Seriously, for me personally I will probably read the guide, appreciate the huge effort and technological elegance, and then await my pre-assembled version. :-O Glenn Gipson April 16th, 2005, 07:54 AM So let me get this straight, is this product a do-it-yourself only product? Brian Valente April 16th, 2005, 08:57 AM Nope - there are two separate products> 1) the guide (which just shipped) is the first product out, which explains how to DIY. I can't speak for micro35, but I believe they were meeting a very specific demand for such a guide 2) there is a fully functional micro35 product on the way, which promises to be an incredible product. It shares similar characteristics of the mini35 (which is around $7500) and has far superior technology than other designs (g35). AND it is priced lower than anything else out there. The pics that are posted on micro35.com are representative of the product version. Glenn Gipson April 16th, 2005, 09:08 AM What "ball park" range of a price are we talking about here for the complete unit? Brian Valente April 16th, 2005, 09:10 AM micro35 has publicly stated the introductory price of the micro35 product (not kit or DIY) to be around $500. That is truly revolutionary, considering it's a rotating gg. you should put your name into their site if you want to be notified when it's shipping. Glenn Gipson April 16th, 2005, 10:40 AM I'll do that, thanks! Ryan Hamblin April 17th, 2005, 12:51 AM Yeh I think it would be good to share on here the experiences of building the micro. Any insight I can give please let me know. They are not too difficult to assemble to be honest, thank god for Mr. Hurd who put all the time into R&D. It can be frustrating piecing this bad boys together, and at times you will feel like there is no way this thing is going to work....but....it does. Are you happy so far with it? Has it exceeded expectations? Aaron Koolen April 17th, 2005, 02:12 AM Can someone fill me in more on this guide and the adapter? What does it offer and at what detail? I think it's amazing that James is doing an adapter and selling both the product and the guide itself. What I'd like to know is this 1) Is there a price for the adapter yet? 2) Does the guide tell you everything, including specific parts and where to get them? Or is it more like - "get a macro lens". I am VERY interested in an adapter in the near future so need to work out if a premade one or self built is the way to go. Cheers Aaron Brian Valente April 17th, 2005, 08:20 AM Aaron - you should visit www.micro35.com for additional details. Here are what I understand to be the facts: "Can someone fill me in more on this guide and the adapter?" - your best bet is to read these threads and visit the site "What does it offer and at what detail?" - not sure what you mean here "1) Is there a price for the adapter yet?" - James has quoted an introductory price of $500 for the micro35, and $45 for the guide (which is now shipping). "2) Does the guide tell you everything, including specific parts and where to get them? Or is it more like - "get a macro lens"." I don't know (since I'm waiting for my guide to show up), but I would venture to guess it's pretty specific, and it includes the ground glass, which should make the quality of a DIY a zillion times better than if you took a shot at building it without the gg. Cheers Ryan Hamblin April 17th, 2005, 08:22 AM Are you working for James? Are you happy so far with it? Has it exceeded expectations? Umm yes I am a rep for him at the moment, so if there is anything I can do to take the heat off James for the moment let me do so. I can say that he is working extremely hard to get everything perfect for you guys. Am I happy with it so far, in a word YES. It really exceeds my expectations. To me it looks a lot more crisp than that of the P+S technic mini35, and I am working with a prototype at the moment. So yes it has far exceeded my expectations. My dp after reviewing some of the footage that was shot on this last music video and some test stuf shot around the house thought that is looked identical to 16 mm without all the grain. Some of that footage should be up on the micro35 site soon www.micro35.com, as well as some screen grabs. Take care, (r)yan Daniel Skubal April 17th, 2005, 11:10 AM Umm yes I am a rep for him at the moment, so if there is anything I can do to take the heat off James for the moment let me do so. Is there color bleeding on the edges of high contrast areas, like the The Ancient samples? I'm assuming that was due to low-light/high contrast and won't be present every time. As far as the package, is it 45$(for parts) to make the adapter alone, or is it for the adapter, rails and macro? Is there an estimated time of arrival for the guides? I'm assuming tuesday or wednesday? Ryan Hamblin April 17th, 2005, 01:07 PM You da' man! haha Thanks for the info! As far as the package, is it 45$(for parts) to make the adapter alone, or is it for the adapter, rails and macro? Is there an estimated time of arrival for the guides? I'm assuming tuesday or wednesday? I have not witnessed any of the contrast issues that are akin to the ancient footage. To be honest I was somewhat displeased with that footage, and hopefully some of the footage I have shot recently will be posted for everyone to see how it reacts contrast wise etc... I have some stuff that is shot from interior to and exterior out a window and nothing is blown out which I was absolutely amazed with. 45 is for the adapter alone, that is not rails and macro I am not aware of a arrival date for the guides so I am apologetic for that, but you will be happy I can assure you. Daniel Skubal April 17th, 2005, 01:49 PM Once again, thank you for the quick replies! I have one last question for you; If I were to buy the 250 kit, does THAT come with the rails/macro/case? Or just the 500$ preassembled unit? I'm really close to just ordering that so I can get all of the extra stuff. Ryan Hamblin April 17th, 2005, 05:21 PM I am fairly possitive those items are included but I will have to check, but I am fairly confident they do. (r)yan Craig Bellaire April 18th, 2005, 08:38 AM James last week said to wait for the new web site before ordering, due to additional updates. I was told it would be up today the 18th. Any news? And should I just go ahead and order... Thanks Brian Valente April 18th, 2005, 09:01 AM Before ordering what -the guide or the micro35? I don't know why you would wait to order the guide, since there is already a way to order it now. Daniel Skubal April 18th, 2005, 05:38 PM Anyone got their guide yet? James Hurd April 18th, 2005, 07:32 PM Daniel, The guides have shipped and are shipping USPS. Watch that mailbox! james www.micro35.com Brian Valente April 18th, 2005, 07:52 PM Sweeeet! Thanks a LOT James. Daniel Skubal April 18th, 2005, 08:12 PM AHH!!! YESS! This has been the best week in the filmmaking world; hvx release and the shipping of these guides! I'm jumping for joy! Craig Bellaire April 19th, 2005, 08:54 AM Ok I just ordered the guide.. I couldn't wait for the new web site... thanks... James Luca Scota April 19th, 2005, 04:37 PM Hi James, now i was in Rome to shot new Pope!! ( for work) But my problem is to return to my home to see in the postal Booth!!!(For me) Please i hope you send all the guide!! Even in Italy Brian Valente April 19th, 2005, 05:31 PM Boy, I hope that wasn't how it sounded! Luca Scota April 19th, 2005, 05:54 PM A great event for all the world, cause a page of history was write Today!! But i shot with a simple DVX 100 AE!! Do you know if i shot with The Micro35 on it with my Lomo 200 mm Fluorite lens?? I think this will be a great Pope, not as Giovanni Paolo II , but a great and onest Pope. Kevin Richard April 19th, 2005, 09:46 PM Boy, I hope that wasn't how it sounded! No, we wouldn't be that lucky ;) Aaron Koolen April 19th, 2005, 10:19 PM Aaron - you should visit www.micro35.com for additional details. Thanks Bryan, but unless I'm blind, the site has no information on it. A few pictures, but no info about what's in the guide. "Can someone fill me in more on this guide and the adapter?" - your best bet is to read these threads and visit the site The site lacks any real information at all - that's my problem. Before I buy I'd like to know what I'm buying. I shouldn't have to read the threads here - I'd like a nice succint, accurate - "what you get is..." "What does it offer and at what detail?" - not sure what you mean here I meant, into what detail does it go about making the adapter? Every little thing? What to buy, where from, how to do it etc? "1) Is there a price for the adapter yet?" - James has quoted an introductory price of $500 for the micro35, and $45 for the guide (which is now shipping). Thanks. OK, so you get the Ground Glass with the guide? Nice. Thanks for the reply Aaron Daniel Skubal April 19th, 2005, 10:36 PM Thanks Bryan, but unless I'm blind, the site has no information on it. Thanks for the reply Aaron You must not have signed up for the mailing list. click the "sign up" button at the bottom, and you'll get quite a bit of info. Aaron Koolen April 19th, 2005, 11:32 PM Ahh OK, no I didn't but I don't think I should have to sign up to a mailing list to get info on a product. If I sign up, will I be sent the latest info, or will I really just start getting what is effectively an emailed version of these threads? Aaron Daniel Skubal April 19th, 2005, 11:33 PM Ahh OK, no I didn't but I don't think I have to sign up to a mailing list to get info on a product - that's not how it should work. If I sign up, will I be sent the latest info, or will I really just start getting what is effectively an emailed version of these threads? Aaron I actually have never gotten an update, but I figure it'll be good to be signed up for once the new website goes up and other products start rolling out. Cody Dulock April 20th, 2005, 10:51 AM from what i know, any changes done to the design after the guide came out will be available online... for example, the macro, the rails, the GG, a nuts and bolts solution, hot spot fix (im not sure if all of these are included or not included in the written guide). all im going to say is i've seen good things... its well worth the wait, pain, and anguish everyone is going through. if i was you i would much rather have the updated version of the adapter instead of the first prototype... theres been alot of changes. -Cody Aaron Koolen April 20th, 2005, 12:22 PM If the price comes in at about $500 for a full adapter, and the quality is good, I will be very interested.
