View Full Version : Micro35 Guide: Where to post questions?
Brian Valente April 24th, 2005, 11:12 PM Mark - I checked with james. He tells me very little has changed between the guide's production and the current status, other than changing out one part. James assures me the guide is still completely relevant.
I hope that helps answer your concerns
Cheers
Mark Kubat April 24th, 2005, 11:57 PM Thanks Brian, good to know!
Thanks James!
Cheers!

Daniel Skubal April 25th, 2005, 08:29 AM what about the rails will the guide tell how to build em?
yeah, he said rails and macro instructions would be included
Brian Valente April 25th, 2005, 08:37 AM Daniel - when you receive your guide, will you leave any more posts?! :)
James Hurd April 25th, 2005, 09:19 AM Daniel,
The guide doesn't go into the macro or the rods. This information will be made available in the member's section of the forum.

Ahaha yeah, I just got a voicemail saying it arrived at my house. I won't be able to look at it for another 4 hours (I'm in class right now), but at least it's in my posession :) hahaha
How does the guide look? Fairly easy assembly?

ahh, well as long as we will have access to building them, then I'm happy :)
Daniel Skubal April 25th, 2005, 01:38 PM James, I've gotta hand it to you. These past few months (especially these last few weeks) must have been hell for you. It sounds like the demand for this product skyrocketed. Your inbox must have been flooded with repeated questions, pleas for the guide and death threats. haha
Even though they're a little late, I've got to thank you for the work that you put into this system for all of us. If this is as good as people are saying, then you're going to be making a mighty fine profit from this and any other products that you develop.
Do you have a target date for the preassembled unit? That box/rail system and adapter looked so nice.
Keith Kline April 25th, 2005, 02:32 PM Hi. This is my first time really posting a question here in the micro35 area. No offense to you at all James, but i was just waiting to order my guide until people started getting theirs. I was just wondering if I order the guide, how soon it would ship? Are you still sending out preorders or are you caught up enough to send out new orders? Also with the purchase of the guide, there will be access to the members forum on the site with info about rails and other stuff right? One last question... I might be getting 2-3 cameras for a shoot in the next year. If I wanted to build a micro35 for each of the cameras would i be able to order the gg for the other cameras or would i have to purchase more guides just for the glass? Thanks and keep up the good work.
James Hurd April 25th, 2005, 02:37 PM Hey Keith!
Welcome to the Project!
All guide orders received of last week have been shipped. The shipment schedule will be every Friday. Order a guide today and it will ship this Friday.
As a guide owner/purchaser, you will have access to the member's section of the micro35 forum. This section will include information on any new updates including directions on building the rods and macro assemblies.
The gg will be sold on the new website.
Hope this helps and good luck with your shoot!

Shawn Murphy April 25th, 2005, 02:45 PM The time is now 1:45 PST, I am opening the cellophane wrapping that surrounds the guide that just arrived in the mail. Happy trails and looking forward to everyone sharing the knowledge and experience of building them!
Craig Bellaire April 25th, 2005, 02:49 PM Rochester, NY... Guide Received... Although I don't see were the parts and suppliers can be found...? The book says "A complete list of parts and suppliers can be found in appendix A at the back of this manual" looking at the back at appendix A Only shows the "drawings" not the suppliers... NOW WHAT…. Am I overlooking something? JAMES... HELLO
Matthew Wauhkonen April 25th, 2005, 03:05 PM If I order now, do I get the free GG? Also, if I give up and decide to buy a pre-built unit, do you deduct the cost of the guide from the price (I thought I read somewhere that you said you would, but this is probably wishful thinking.)
Keith Kline April 25th, 2005, 03:05 PM Thanks for the quick reply James. I'm gonna try to order a guide this week hopefully, but we'll see. Just out of curiosity how long do you think it'll be more the members forums with the macro/rail info and such will be up and running? Thanks again!!
Andrew C. Stewart April 25th, 2005, 03:07 PM I haven't ordered anything yet...one because I don't have a camera...two because I haven't heard whether the tests are completed on the XL2.
Since the XL2 has the interchangeable lens system...will the micro35 work in conjunction with any canon lens or will it be able to work sans lens with only the XL2 body, adapter, and 35mm lens

Shawn Murphy April 25th, 2005, 03:41 PM James,
I'm making an assumption that all questions related to the manuals (that are now in many of our hands), should be posted on the redrockmicro forum site?
http://redrockmicro.com/forum/index.php
*Because I've been following the progress of this project on multiple boards (lots of emails), I’ve also posted this same question on the dvxuser site as well, as I'd prefer to track the latest and greatest on the manual, and the building process, all in one place (if at all possible) ;-)
Regards,
~Shawn
James Hurd April 25th, 2005, 03:45 PM That is correct shawn. The guides have beat our mailer to all the members about the new member forum.

Luca Scota April 28th, 2005, 08:41 AM I've got the guide!! I 've built Rail and connection to the camera, but i need to built the mount for Lomo OCT 19.
James send me the photos, cause he tell me that this parts have to be machined.
Cause i decide to built it myself, can you send me the part on wich i 've to attach OCT 19 mount, that i allready have???
Brian Valente April 28th, 2005, 09:39 AM Luca - you would do well to go to the micro35 forums: www.redrockmicro.com/forum
The guide, DIY, etc. are all discussed in detail in those forums.
Brian Valente April 28th, 2005, 04:06 PM Hey everyone -
I don't know who of you get Studio/Monthly magazine, but it's quite exclusive and tough to get. There was a really nice writeup of the Micro35 in Jim Feeley's column. Here's the text:
"One of the most promising [approaches] is the Micro35... Hurd is a design engineer and that experience shaped his approach to a key problem that had afflicted other lens hotrodders. When he couldn't find the parts he needed, he engineered his own. The results are pretty impressive. Check out www.micro35.com"

Would you consider scanning the article for us non-subscribers? I'd really like to read what the article has to say
Brian Valente April 28th, 2005, 10:34 PM Hey Daniel - I'm not sure copyright laws would allow that, but drop me an email and I can fill you in.

Shawn Murphy April 29th, 2005, 02:51 AM Brian,
Perhaps you'd be a pal and ask Studio Monthly for permission to at least allow you and James permission to republish the article on the micro site (I suspect that by the time any of us would get our first issue the article will have since passed):

You can get a free subscription here:

Thanks,

Brian Valente April 29th, 2005, 12:31 PM Great idea Shawn - we are already in process of doing that!
Btw, I encourage everyone to check out the magazine. It seems like a really great resource for digital filmmakers, cinematographers, etc.
