I am wanting to buy from a friend a used Digi Beta VTR, PAL system, the model type is Sony DVW-500 Digital Betacam Recorder, he told me that this unit is switchable between NTSC and PAL, is that true? Or do these units only come specifically made for NTSC or PAL and cannot be programmed for both? And if this model can be used for both formats can we also record on both formats on this unit?

As far as I know, digital beta decks ploy only NTSC or PAL...not both.

I found these specs online, and they make no mention of this. If it could, it would be a BIG selling point:
