I'm going to purchase the Rode Videomic for my Gl1 after hearing good reviews from tyler and other members on this forum. I have a question though, is there a way to attach the rode videomic onto a boom mic pole? If so, what or how would I do this? Thanks.

The bottom of the Rode has a small threaded insert/metal plate that can be attached to a standard 3/8 thread. It looks flimsy, it feels flimsy, but it's not. Rode sent me a mic to try to damage with the boom, and allowing the boom to fall over, allowing the boom to be knocked about with the Rode on it....didn't damage the threads at all.

That mic kit you posted will work just fine. For a few bucks more, you could get a much better Ktek, but it's not that big a deal overall. Any boom with a 3/8 thread on the end will work.
Keep in mind, this is a high impedance microphone, so if you run the cable very long at all, you're just asking for noise.

would you take this mic over the atr55 when using the boom pole?

Absolutely. The ATR 55 is a decent mic for what it's designed for; consumer level recording, but it's not a professional mic by any means. The Rode VideoMic isn't either, but it sounds pretty good. It's also a lot more expensive than the ATR 55 is. With either of the two mics, the high impedance connectors are gonna be a problem for you if you attempt any length, and a metal boom pole only serves to make the problem worse. Even though the Rode will go on a boom, it's not really designed as a boom mic, due to the impedance issue.

So what shotgun microphone would you recommend where I wont need to purchase an XLR adapter?

Any mic that has a mini-plug output to match your GL1 will suffer from the same problem with running longer cables that boom mounting would require.
