View Full Version : My Award Nominated PSA "REFLECTION"
Glen Chua April 17th, 2005, 09:44 PM Hey guys, this is my first time posting up any of my films... so I'm a little bit nervous. This PSA of mine was nominated for $2,500 this past week, and I attended the award show... but sadly I didn't go home with the prize. Anyways, tell me what you guys think! Thanks! Hope you enjoy.

PS: I am not that great at compressing the videos yet.
Rob Lohman April 18th, 2005, 09:16 AM I thought it looked great, but it felt a tad too long... but perhaps I'm just
tired after a day of working, heh.
John Sandel April 18th, 2005, 12:36 PM I really like it, Glen. The end shocked me. Certainly made your point.
How'd you do the mirror effect?
Mitchell Stookey April 18th, 2005, 02:29 PM That was awesome. I don't think it was too long, but maybe if it had been quicker it would have changed the mood, made it more frantic and uncoordinated. It did look great and I think very interesting take on the subject. Good work. I wonder what beat you?
Glen Chua April 18th, 2005, 04:31 PM Thanks for the comments guys! I gotta get to work so I will explain the mirror thing, but I just got news that this PSA won 1st Place at the BC Student Film Festival!
K, just got back from work.
So the mirror effects were really quite simple to accomplish. All I did was split the screen in half. The problem with this is, when your moving, if the lighting is not proper, you get a line through your image. Then, you don't want completely awkward lighting, but yea, that's the mirror effect in a nutshell!
Obin Olson April 22nd, 2005, 06:59 AM very good Glen...I bit "choppy" but it works..good audio ....you could use some "looks" IMHO has a bit of a "video" feel not bad but maybe a really COLD almost blackandwhite? or a blue?
keep it up...your doing great
Mike Cavanaugh April 22nd, 2005, 01:12 PM GREAT - really liked it. I have a different take on it from some of the others... I would have liked a slower start, ramping up to the crash scene. Suck me in first, then shock me!

Dylan Couper April 22nd, 2005, 10:23 PM Good enough for me, off to the kitchen to pour another rum + coke.
Glen Chua April 22nd, 2005, 11:44 PM Thanks for the comments!
Obin, when you meant a bit "choppy" did you mean the video itself was choppy in a laggy way, or did you mean teh way it was edited?
Geoffrey Engelbrecht April 23rd, 2005, 01:17 PM Brilliant film. I also didn't see the end coming and I loved the mirror effect like the others.
At the very last frame or two there is a picture which appears. Was this intentional?
Glen Chua April 23rd, 2005, 06:48 PM Geoffrey,
Thanks for the comment! No, the very last frame is not intentional. It is actually from a film I did last year which won best film and best of the festival at the Calgary Film Festival. I'll try to upload that film too, it was titled THE LOST.
Doug Fearman May 9th, 2005, 02:10 PM Very powerful!
doug
Dave Ferdinand May 12th, 2005, 12:26 PM That was great. I especially liked the end sequence when he gets in the car. Really good stuff.
