i am considering to buy a sony fx1..and i have a question...

lets say we shoot with 2 cameras, 1 a trv950 (3ccd chip) and a fx1...

they will point the same direction and shoot the same picture....

if we take out the 720 x 576 (cutted out picture) pixel image from the fx1's hd image, will it look different from the trv 950's 720 x 576 (original image)? in terms of quality, color, contrast, resolution and codec artifacts?

I think it will. Don't ask me how, because I don't have any of the cams, so I don't know sure too, but I think it would be crazy if there would be no difference. You can also just run a little test?

Any two different cams will look different. Different lens, DSP, colour capture ect... That is only going to be amplified when you also have a different compression codec, and resolution added to the mix.
If you are not going for a HD final product, and want to do a two cam shoot, I would suggest using your fx1 in DV mode. Colour balance them both manually on the same sheet at the same time. Then CC the footage from the cam you used least to match the footage from the cam you used most.

what i ment was, if i was to crop the 720x576 pixel from the high defination image, would it look ok? could that croped image serve as well as a normal 3 ccd camera giving the area?

Sure it would.

You mean you put the larger image into a regular DV project and instead of resizing it, you just center cut it, or move it around to get the best part?

why not just record in DVCam mode?

I was initially concerned about something similar. Could I effectly double the zoom of my camcorder by just using a smaller part of the HDV frame in a DV project. Turns out it works pretty good.

i am planing to find a good high def. cam for a helicam project, and if there was to be turbulance i could stabilize the shake with a larger footage than dv....

i am investþgatþng some high def scientific cameras. and i wnted to know if sony had adchieved something good.
