I only have a standard definition TV to play back my HDV footage. It's certainly a clean image, but I'm not getting the true "feel" for HDV. When I capture an HDV clip via PPro/Aspect HD, I can only play it back in the little editing window and stilll don't really get a good feel for the quality of the HDV clip (my monitor resolution is currently set to 1024x768). Questions:

1.) since my computer monitor can go to 2048x1536, presumably I can view and appreciate the full glory that is HDV, but how do I do this outside of the PPro editing window? Do I output the clip as an MPEG2 and then view it in Media Player?

2.) What type of playback monitor/HDTV could I use for playback that wouldn't require I take out a third mortgage (my second went to buy the Z1)

other suggestions??

Cheers!

Hi Andrew

I find I can play the Cineform AVIs with WMP (having set my monitor resolution sufficiently to allow full size playback) but whether it actually is playing at full resolution is another question - be interesting to hear from David Newman on this.

Andrew,
All you have to do is go on e-bay, pick up a Dell W1900 for a song ($425 - 460)
and of course, have Shannon say his famous prayer!

Believe me, she'll hardly say a word.

Desktop playback of CineForm AVIs will playback in full resolution by default, include out to an overlay surface (if you has a secondary display that can support 1920x1080.)

I can play native .m2t clips captured direct from Firewire using VLC (www.videolan.org). The only issue is that VLC doesn't deinterlace the footage and that means you get interlace lines on the PC screen... enabling deinterlacing seems to lead to dropped frames.
