When doing event video (not a wedding) that will require some editing, is it customary to be paid at the time of the event, or to bill? And what do you guys spell out in the contract?

Hey I don't know if it's cool to do this on the forum, but I posted a link seeking some shoot advice and if any of you in this forum have any advice I sure could use it. Thx

I'm not 100% sure about the others, but I believe it is customary to get a deposit first, balance upon completion. I usually charge 1/3 upfront, just to cover time and expenses. This is also usually non refundable, especially in the case where the client hasn't got a clue, and decides last minute to call it off.

Then again, I end up driving at least 1 to 3 hours to a shoot. Plus, I clear my calendar for this event, which means nothing else goes on that day.

1/3 up front, 1/3 on delivery of approval copy, balance on delivery of final master.

50% deposit, remainder either before event or before editing commences, depending on client
