I haven't had to deal with this yet, but I'm keen to know what others have done to convert between the standards when it comes to high definition footage.

Your thoughts?

Took a look through all that. Seems like it was all for standard def output in the end, though sometimes from a HD source.

What I'm wanting to do is to convert from HD to HD.

just skip the downsizing-related sections.
Basically, you can try Atlantis, Procoder, TMPGenc,
or go the AE route.

I'm an Atlantis owner and it only does standard def conversions. I've posted on the forum there and (unless something has happened in the last year) I don't think Marcus is too interested in creating a version for HD work.

After Effects I'd prefer to avoid as the built in de-interlacers cut vertical resolution by 50%. See "Is it better than converting with Premiere or After Effects?" at the DVFilm Atlantis web site (http://dvfilm.com/atlantis/)

ProCoder's web site shows that their product will read and write to HD formats as well as doing the standards conversion. I'd feel a bit safer if they explicitly stated that their product will do standards conversions for HD content.

I've looked on the TMPGenc site and don't see anything about standards conversion. Might be a script that needs to be run. (I also might need to run some tests with the software to see if the conversions are effective).

On the positive side, I haven't come up against a job where I have needed to do this ... yet. I'd be keen to know what to do ahead of time, though.

Just to update the issue. I have received the following in a reply from the DVFilm people.

Atlantis for Windows supports HD resolution video. As of now, Atlantis for Mac does not support HD Resolution video, but there are plans to add it in the future though there is not a timetable, yet.

So that's fantastic news for me as I already have their software. It was a chunk of money to purchase it, but consistently well worth it.

Hope this is of help to some of the others here.
