Hi, who knows, may I use a new HD tape on my PDX-10? TNX. P.S. And what pro and contra?

You may certainly use the new tape in your camera. The upsides are that you're less likely to experience dropouts so you can use LP (on cameras that allow it) with a light heart.

The downside is purely one of cost. The new tape costs about 8x what a normal Sony Premium 60 costs, yet the pictures and the audio will not be one iota different. That makes it pretty hard to justify in my book.

FWIW, the PDX-10 doesn't record in LP mode, only DVCAM and DV SP. I agree this would really be overkill, considering the cost. I've always had good results with the Sony premiium tapes myself, that's all I've ever put into my PDX-10.

If you're worried about dropouts then record in DVCAM mode, although you will use 50% more tape that way (40minutes vs 60 minutes). You could also use the special DVCAM tapes, which are also expensive, but I believe they're cheaper than the HD variety.

You know, Boyd, I always am using Sony excellence for shooting, after all copy them to DVD or to premium to shelf, or to my PC to work on my project, if I need. That is my way to do. Thank you.
