I have a dilema. I have a NEC Mitsubishi 18" LCD monitor.
The monitor is no longer sold and there are very few 18" models on the market.
I want to either add a second monitor or replace the NEC with a 26" LCD TV.
I use the monitor for editing in PPro, I have a seperate Sony monitor for playback.
Would you
A. buy another NEC 19" monitor?
B. Buy a Sharp 26 LCD monitor w/Hi def?
C. a better solution

LCD TV's usually don't look well when used in computer setups. The 1024x768 or 1280x1024 resolution just doesn't look good when bigger than ~22 inches or so. It almost comes across as cheap.
For your main monitor lcd I would seriously check out the 20.1" wide Dell lcd. These are starting to come in below $500. Check on bensbargains.net when possible to keep a check on these. They have recieved very good reviews.
You might also be able to match the vertical hieght of your 18" to a widescreen lcd such as the one above - although I believe this one is closer to a 19".

Not to mention they are more expensive.
IMO I would go with dual 19-20" LCDs.
I have an acer al1913 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=24-009-032&depa=0 and getting a second this month. I only paid $310 each. Also, they have a very fast response time (20ms) and great brightness/contrast level as well as a high viewing angle. I don't think you can get more screen real-estate with a higher quality any cheaper than $620.
