I'm trying to make up my mind which camera I should buy. I currently shoot a Panasonic 3 chip AG-EZ30. I have noticed numerous complaints about the GL2's transport mechanism jamming. Canon stated it's because users are mixing brands of video tape & the tape lubricants mix & cause the eject/run function to fail. I've never heard of a tape problem like this. Has anyone experienced this problem with the AG-DVC30?

Don't know if you got your questions answered elsewhere in the last few days but here are a few remarks.

Mixing dry and wet tape lubes from different manufacturers is indeed a known occurence/problem. Is that really what the problem was with the GL2, I do not know. The GL2 is a popular camera, I'm sure any tape mech problems were specific and momentary, and that this is a fine camera to work with.

That said, I would go with the DVC30, of the two. Newer technology, more useful options, better looking.

picture quality aside, i choose the gl2 over the dvc 30 because of the zoom handle, when shooting from the waist this becomes priceless, i also thought the ois worked better on the gl2...
