Andrei Kuvchinov March 24th, 2005, 06:29 AM What's new in Vegas? Any details out yet?
Glen Elliott March 24th, 2005, 06:51 AM Nice- I really enjoyed last years stream. Thanks Jay and Liam.
Can you make it downloadable like last year?
Peter Jefferson March 24th, 2005, 09:01 AM "What's new in Vegas? Any details out yet?"
yes, but only to certain dealers who are now on a gag order until its release and rightly so...
I dont Blame Sony for being paranoid.
(and im not exhagerating or blowing bubbles, i just cant talk about it.. so i wont )
Glen Elliott March 24th, 2005, 09:20 AM If it's anything like the changes from 4 to 5. I'd say this time around they added a 3D modeling program that rivals Lightwave and even a handy little tax program for handling your returns. Hey and maybe we'll be able to do our online banking and image editing through Vegas. Goodbye Photoshop. ;) Actual changes to the "standard" editing functionality- who knows. lol
Edward Troxel March 24th, 2005, 09:22 AM Glen, don't let out all the secrets. (You left out the automated tax filing based on all projects edited.) :-)
Glen Elliott March 24th, 2005, 10:44 AM Ohhhh ohhh, they added THAT too! Awesome! I'm crossing my fingers they leave in the word processor and email client too. Not to mention direct links to the Vegas chat server right from the tool bar above the timeline.
Imagine that- chat and edit at the same time...man am I getting amped! This was the answer I was looking for to up my productivity.
Andrew Petrie March 26th, 2005, 07:56 PM what i do want to see in V6 is an easier way of turning 4:3 to 16:9, be it with a cropping wizard, or something just as easy...

You don't like just opening Pan/Crop and picking the 16:9 preset?
Joe Carney March 26th, 2005, 09:32 PM Unless there is something incredible about Vegas 6, I'll probably stay with 5 for the time being. Maybe wait for 7.
Bennis Hahn March 26th, 2005, 09:55 PM what about those of us that just bought vegas + dvda?
Peter Jefferson March 26th, 2005, 10:56 PM those whove just bought it will be able to get a discounted upgrade. Obviously proof of purchase etc will be required etc etc
with regard to V6, there will be enough changes and new fetaures to warrant an upgrade
Shannon Rawls March 26th, 2005, 11:04 PM As long as it handles CF24 HDV & Downconverted DV footage, and nativley captures HDV, I am a happy man. This way I won't have to keep doing it the manual way.

Benns, it really depends on WHEN you bought it. There will be a cut-off date. Any copies purchased AFTER that date will get a free upgrade. I don't know what that date is.

It's not really hard to rival LightWave ! :)
Magnus Helander March 28th, 2005, 04:18 AM If there is a new media bin I'm paying for the upgrade - don't really need anything else.... or... maybe the "freeze track" feature - to prerender a whole parent track with "child" tracks. That would be something.
And I'm sure there is some superintegrated native support for the FX1, but I am sceptical about a camera which records a distribution format (MPEG-2) on tape. A DV-magazine in sweden sent out a DVD with "extraordinary footage from the brand new Sony FX1" and i couldn't see any differences at all.
Using a progressive DVD player with a 42" plasma screen and HDMI plug will probably make a difference...

Joe Carney March 28th, 2005, 01:29 PM I'm hoping for smp support and to integrate the media management tools they put into Acid 5. Among other things.
Peter Jefferson March 28th, 2005, 08:46 PM well considering that Acid and Vegas are built around the same engine, what is included in Acid, should be easily transported across through to Vegas.
as for media bins, i guess, we'll jsut have to wait... what i can say though is that you should all be prepared for a surprise :)
Joe Carney March 29th, 2005, 04:52 PM Peter, you are enjoying all this just a LITTLE TOO MUCH!!!:)
Chris C. Shaffer March 29th, 2005, 07:03 PM Any ballpark idea as to when Vegas 6 will hit the streets?
Peter Jefferson March 29th, 2005, 11:52 PM NAB will be the launch :)
Dave Largent March 30th, 2005, 08:23 AM It would be cool if it didn't have the lock-ups
("program not responding") when
previewing to external monitor.

I've not experience that in Vegas 3, 4, or 5.

I've occasionally seen that- the solution is to make sure your IEEE device your using to output the signal to external monitor is connected and turned on BEFORE you load Vegas.
Edward Troxel March 30th, 2005, 01:30 PM Hmm... mine just defaults back to displaying on the computer monitor unless I turn on the deck - then it automatically starts displaying on the external monitor until I turn off the deck - then it goes back to displaying on the computer monitor.
Glen Elliott March 30th, 2005, 02:00 PM The only time I've seen it happen is if I have Vegas running and have been editing for a while- then go to turn my DSR-11 on and try to output to external monitor. It'll lock Vegas up occasionally- only to be freed the moment I turn the DSR-11 off, and everything returns to normal.
I find if I have the DSR-11 on prior to loading Vegas I never get this problem. Though- I'm more succeptible to IEEE issues because I'm using the built in IEEE on my Audigy sound card (which isn't necessarily advised). I do this becaues my Mobo has an issue with the onboard IEEE and promile controller. Just never bothered to investigate to fix it. Been pretty happy with simply using the IEEE on the Audigy.

yes i am.. lol
as for a street release.. the 18th of April (US day time) is when we should be able to get our mits on it :)

YEAH, better Multi-processor support is a must. The way Vegas handles multiple processors right now is so unefficent.
Yi Fong Yu April 4th, 2005, 07:13 PM OMG, no waaaay!!! this is too kewl! i'm so excited! i bet it's gonne wasome!

That or seeing it actually in HD versus reencoded down to an SD DVD...
Can't wait for Vegas 6... if even half of the rumored features show up, I'll buy the upgrade immediately...
