I am a bit confused about fields in after effects.

I am wondering to get the most film like result do i try no fields in intepret footage of after effects. And then when i make movie do i choose no fields again or upper field, and will having no fields then upper field reverse it.

I am also wondering about what to do with magic bullet. The edit suite i use has this as a plug in for after effects 5.5, and i am wondering do i tough the field setting for it, and am i undoing themagic by touching them.

I hope this makes sense and is not too big a conundum.

Interlaced (fields) versus progressive is a long story. A TV uses
interlaced, and your computer is progressive. You can see film
as "progressive" as well (although it really is a different thing).

Most people who are going after the infamous "movie look" work
in progressive mode.

The question is with which do you want to end up. Progressive
or interlaced? Then it is important to know if you shot in interlaced
or progressive as well.

If both the input and output are the same then keep it interlaced
or progressive all the way through. If you shoot interlaced and
want progressive you need to de-interlace (which both after effects
and magic bullet can do).

Just make sure that you keep it interlaced or progressive all the
way from the originating point (which a conversion from interlaced
to progressive is as well). No mixing the two.

And remember that all modern displays (excluding CRT based ones) always show pictures in progressive mode. So they de-interlace and often rescale the incoming interlaced signals

I think that your question is basically about setting in after effects. Im thinking that if yuo make the wrong choice you might reverse the deinterlace effect. But i have no idea which is the right one.

My guess is select one of the fields in interpret footage ie Upper. and then export as no fields, and magic bullet deinterlace should stay.

I have seen some bad magic bulletd stuff online that looked like they had aaccidently reversed the setting somehow? Anyway mate.
