I've wondered the same things over here in the states but just wrote it off as false/misleading advertising by the retailers. I see it all the time at places like Best Buy and Circuit City. Hopefully it will get better soon.

There are 74 different devices that are being sold as HD but are not HD-ready, according to Alexander Oudendijk, senior vice president of marketing for satellite giant Astra.
