Pardon the possibly dumb question, but how do you integrate starting and stopping the Nano into the system? Obviously you are not reaching behind your head everytime you want to roll. I read about a sensor that attached to the tally light on the camera - is that the answer?
I do like the "belt and suspenders" option of recording SxS and Nano at the same time if that is the case.

You can set the Nano to trigger recording with that setup by:

1. Starting-stopping recording via the camera's button

2. When embedded timecode starts and stops running

3. Remote control cable trigger

You are not limited to controlling recording via only the Nano's faceplate controls

Alister I thank you for sharing your technique on capturing unpredictable natural events. I spent about four hours today whale watching while recording to the NanoFlash using your technique.
I had the prerecord function on and as soon as the whales came up and engaged in tail slapping etc I hit the record switch and got it every time. It would be nice to have an extra couple of seconds in cache just to give the vision that extra lead-in.

Sort of a side question regarding the EX cameras and triggering the Nano from the camera's record button -

If one sets the recording quality to the lowest in-camera (for long record times), is the HD-SDI feed unaffected?

I am assuming the SDI feed is never touched or interrupted but I would like ot know for sure.

Yes that's correct the HDSDi output is not effected.
