Just wanted to pass it along. I shot a jazz
quintet and was very impressed with the
results of using a Senn ME64 at a distance
of 10 to 12 feet or so. The mic seemed
really open, airy, and responsive -- sounded
as if you were hearing it live. I also
tried an AT4073 from the same distance
and it was much inferior -- sounded
muddy.
I prefer the 4073 for dialogue, but
if you are ever in the situation of recording
live jazz, I think you'll be very pleasantly
surprised by how well the 64
gets the job done.
Hope this helps some jazz recordist
out there.
