Hi,

I am getting a Rode NT4 to use for wedding ceremony and reception ambient sound. I want to be able to mount it on the camera (sony PD170) for the reception as well as hook it up to an iRiver (1/8 in, 3.5mm?) for the ceremony. I am having no luck finding out what connector is on the Rode. Is it a 5 pin stereo XLR? I assume it is but I would like to be sure. Also, I want to be able to hook up the mic 3 different ways so I need 3 cables. Short stereo xlr to 2 mono xlr for camera mount, short stereo xlr to stereo 1/8" and long(10') stereo xlr to stereo 1/8" to hook up to the iRiver. I have seen what B & H has to offer and I don't really want to spend $50 for a 2' cable that I could make myself. If anyone can recommend a place to get materials to make them I would be just as happy with that.

Oh, by the way. Anybody know if this mic will fit in the mount that comes with the PD170? Or do I have to buy a new mount?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It appears from the manual that the NT4 comes with a short dual XLR cable and a longer stereo 1/8" cable, although I couldn't find any mention of their exact lengths.
You can extend the short dual XLR cable with regular XLR cables if you ever need to do that.
You can search here for the wiring scheme for making a shorter 1/8" cable, I think there was a thread on it not too long ago.
The mic diameter is 32mm. Much larger than the supplied ring mount on the camera if I remember.

Lame....maybe I will have to go with one of the AT stereo mics. I need to be able to switch back and forth between this and the stock shotgun without too much of a hassle.

You remember right, Jay. I work with the equipment
mentioned by the original poster.

So Dave how do you utilize it? How do you mount it on the camera? Hot shoe to mic clip adapter?

Scott, not sure what you mean by "mic clip
adapter"?

P.S. It's a minor thing, but the PD shoe is
a "cold shoe". "Hot" is if you were to have power
running to it, like the VX.

Yes I know the difference between hot and cold shoe....

Right, and then use the AT8415 shock mount
with it.
You might want to order some extra rubber
bands as the weight of the NT4 will
stretch them out.
An alternative is the Lightwaves Minimount.

You might be happier going with an AT mic and
using it in the stock PD mount.
