I'm sure this stuff is lovely gear, but holy hell $3200!? Any suggestions for economical alternatives that aren't complete hacks? Thanks!

Nice, but scary:

I'm using Cavision hardware on my XL2. I'm sure Cavision can be adapted to work with the Sony.

Yea, i think I am going to go with Cavision as well. I want a rod mounted mattebox that will not vignette when all the way wide, and Cavision is the solution thus far.

Mattebox is only $400 bucks
Rod kit is only $150 bucks

All done.

A follow focus can be added to the rod kit above

Follow Focus is only $800 bucks

That makes a complete focus pulling, rotatable 4x4 filtering, no light flaring, lens protecting, movie making solution for about $1400 bucks.

I wish someone would hurry up and get the Cavision.

I want to see how it looks/works before I go for it.

Rod kit too please. :)

Hey , anyone seen the JBK Cinequipt stuff ? Looks pretty nice - the rails and follow focus is $1300 + mattebox kicks it up to $2200 but I think it's better gear than cavision( I don't like their bellows mattebox - maybe the 3x3 would be better ) - although more expensive , but less than the aforementioned. I havent seen it, but isn't it equal or even more expensive, than chrosziel ?

And the reason for this thread is about cheap alternatives, I guess.
At this price you'll get the Chrosziel. I only have the chrosziel mattebox with rods, as I really don't see the need for a followfocus here and I must say that it improves the overall look of the z1 very much. And the quality is excellent.

Greetings

No it's halfway between( - the chrosziel goes for about a grand more i believe ) - the cavision and chrosziel- however it' s handcrafted - Wilt said somewhere it's very well handcrafted - I like the mattebax the JBK has alot more than the cavision- the cavision is made in china - however i have 0% handson with any of the systems - it just hasn't been mentioned as an alternative between the two- kurth
