Hey guys,

I remember some discussion a while back about using the component out on the FX1/Z1 to get uncompressed footage. Does anyone know what happened to this theory? I seem to remember that this was confirmed but I can't seem to find the source of the information.

I'm also curious if the same goes for the DVX.

i am a big backer of using the component out on this camera. when i was at the dv expo in los angles, i went to the sony booth to check out this camera.
it was hooked up to a 1920x1080 monitor using the component out on the camera. i asked the sony guy if the signal has been compressed at this point and he said no. when i took the camera and panned with it, there was no goasting or hard bluring. it was simply stunning. as soon as we can find a way to capture with a cost effective hard disk or blue ray device, we will rule the video world.

I haven't got the bookmark handy, But there are some pages with info using a Decklink Multibridge A/D converter into a Mac. I research my archives, hope to find it

these guys are doing it for the panasonic dvx100. they say they will do the fx1 next.

They're actually tapping into the chips directly. The component out would give a (theoretically) uncompressed analogue signal instead of an uncompressed digital signal. Digital would of course be preferable, but the component out could be theoretically utilized without having to modify the camera at all.
