Hey guys!

I recently borrowed a Fostex MR-8 to do some audio recording, and I very much like its ability to record to Compact Flash cards. The MR-8 is pretty inexpensive, but it has more features than I need. Audio is not really my area, so I am not current with what's on the market.

My question is - does anyone know of a portable recorder that utilizes Compact Flash cards?

It looks really nice. The built-in 48v phantom power is attractive too, as I am currently having to use a separate unit (Beachtek) for that.

I'm still a little new to the audio realm but from what I've heard, the Marantz units are very capable. Also, I'm guessing your using the Beachtek DXA series. I'm not too sure how good these units are but you may be better off just using the Marantz's built in Phantom Power.

Currently, I'm using a DXA-6 with a Canon GL-2. The DXA provides phantom power to my Peavey Studio Pro-M2 (large cardiod studio microphone, which I actually boom with).
I like the idea of keeping it balanced XLR all the way through, and not terminating at a 1/8" unballanced plug the way I am now with the DXA.

What I'm interested in is the ability to capture sounds to build a sfx library (foley stuff), dialog work, and also as a non-camera sound source.

B&H Has it for around $439.

The only drawback is the lack of phantom power. I would like to keep it balanced XLR all the way.
