I thought I was dreaming when i wished Rode would produce a shotgun microphone. And today I get an email from our local dealer, announcing the arrival of the NTG series. Has anyone used it yet?

It's still not shipping just yet. They've announced it, and had 2 displays at the NAMM show, but said it wouldn't be shipping til the first week of March. I'll have a review up as soon as my review units make their way here.

Kudos to Rode, all their accessories for the Videomic (boompole, wind muff, etc) also work with the NTG 2. That's makes a nice upgrade path.

I've been looking at the Rode shotgun mics very seriously to replace my current Sennheiser ME66. I was always happy with my ME66 until I A-B'd it with my tiny Rode Videomic. Surprisingly, the Videomic sounds much better! I want the better sound without giving up XLR's and balanced cable runs though, and that's why I'm looking at the NTG series. A while back, somebody posted an audio file comparison between one of the Rode shotgun mics and a Sennheiser 416 (which is still my favourite mic, just too expensive), and the sound quality between the two was very similar.

Good to hear.. Looks like you can't do better at that price range.
And a product that's made here in Oz.. who would'a thought.
Can someone discuss the p's & c's of relying on power from my PD170 for the ntg1?.
How dramaticcally would it effect battery life? Would it be similar to the stock standard PD mic?
Thanks.

I've heard that phantom power has very little
effect on the PD battery run time.
