How do I get a clip to go in slow motion. I am capturing clips from a Sony vx2100. Does this have to happen while shooting or can it be done in post editing?

I don't know about FCE but in FCP you can press "command (apple)+J" and enter the new duration (less than 100% to slow it down). It is found in the "modify" menu as "speed".

Yes you can do in FCP, you change the speed of the clip(s) in question.
If you have Adobe After Effects, do the slow mo there better, it comes out a lot smoother.
Still comes out decent on FCP though.

It's the same in FCE, command+J. Make sure you have Frame Blending checked as well.

And the longer way to do it (in FCP) is Modify menu ->speed

To make it slower choose a number lower than 100% and the opposite goes for speeding up clips

best slowmo can be done with Twixtor plugin, looks definitely better than FCP slomotion.. can be a litle tricky first time but result are awesome compared to anithing alse...

Twixtor can also ve used to convert from 30P to 24P or 25P...

Have a look at Joe's Filters (http://www.joesfilters.com/). You get a lot of stuff in one reasonably priced package. You can also download a free trial version.

I like the Nattress filters. He has a free set, and you can download demos and manuals for the main filter packages. The guy who creates them posts on boards like this and seems like a real nice guy, and I've had good experiences with his plug-ins. I use the blur dissolve in the GFree package all the time, and some FCP users swear by his his film effects package (they say it's faster than Magic Bullet, but I've never tried MB so I can't compare). Just control+click on the clip in the timeline, select "speed" and reset the duration. I've always gotten decent results with FCP alone.
