Hi all,

At the CanonDV site - www.canondv.com - the following claim is made in promoting the virtues of the XL1 PAL:

"A slower playback speed serves a higher quality picture"

Would someone explain this to me? I could understand the claim that a greater number of pixels in PAL format might yield higher quality results, but is it also true that slowing frame rate somehow improves picture quality?

Thank you.

As I understand it, PAL gives more scan lines lines for improved vertical resolution with the same horizontal resolution. Also, the PAL signal format gives more reliable/repeatable color information. The 25 vs. 30 fps frame rate allows the higher vertical resolution within the same bandwidth.
