Hi, I just got a Digital Rebel (wow... great camera... Why I have waited so long before buying it?) which came with a BP-511 7.4V 1100 mAh.

I noticed that my little ZR-60 came with BP-508 7.4V 800 mAh.

The two batteries doesn't have the same shape. The BP-511 is shaped like a sort of "m" and the 508 is rectangular, but fit nicelly and work well in the Digital Rebel.

I think that this battery could be used as a good secondary battery for my rebel, despit it's lower 800 mAh.

But do you think that I sould avoid to use it for any reason?

Additional question along the same lines; can the ZR series batteries be safely charged in the BP511 charger that comes with a DigiRebel or 10d?

I've been charging the batteries for my ZR40 in a 10d charger, is it bad?

Jean-Phillipe:

They are the same battery. The 511 comes from the photo division, the 508 comes from the video division. No difference other than the shape, and they are freely interchangeable. Isn't it interesting how the Rebel's battery well was designed to accept the 508? Canon's separate divisions have not always been this compatible. Enjoy the harmony while it exists.

Dylan:

The Rebel's cool little wall-charger may be used for any BP-5xx series, including the larger high-capacity BP-522 and 535. Hope this helps,

Thanks Chris!

Much nicer to charge the video battery in a regular charger rather than through the camera itself.
