Hi, we are a TV series in preproduction thinking of using an F23 in 4:2:2 mode and recording to a Flash XDR instead of that big ugly SR deck. Can anyone familiar with the F23 think of any reason why this wouldn't work?

Just a note, we are expecting that we will have to record using a hypergamma curve rather than the S-Log but not certain. Probably outputting to MXF files for direct use in an Avid setup.

No reason why it won't work, and hypergamma will be OK as it all goes through the SDI.
Nano doesn't record .mxf, only .mov, but I believe CD does a conversion prog with it.

The Nano does record both MXF and .MOV.

I too see no reason why it should not work. Should look pretty good, certainly better than vanilla HDCAM, not quite SR which is 10 bit, but pretty damn close.

We have a menu item where you can select MOV, MXF, MPG or M2V.

All of these file formats come standard with the nanoFlash.
(The Flash XDR will have these also soon).

The MOV is native Quicktime for Final Cut Pro, the MXF is native also.

In one wants both formats, then select MOV, then use our free Mac based file converter to produce MXF. This is not a transcode, so there is no loss in image quality. This is about as quick as a file copy.

Cheers....This should really work amazingly well actually. What the Genesis camera outputs by 4:2:2 would be so clean, so high rez, but be sure to record in as high a data rate Long GOP - even I frame as you can.
