Hi all
Most posts here mention shooting with 0db gain. I was wondering if -3db gives a cleaner signal than 0db or what exactly is it doing to the ccd signal?
Thanks

On my XL1S I always shot with -3 db gain to get the cleanest
signal possible. If I remember correctly gain amplifies the analog
CCD signals before they reach the analog to digital converter.
When the signal is lowered instead of increased the noise should
drop even futher (as will "light levels" ofcourse).

The -3 is convenient for getting the right f outdoors when used in combination with the N/D filters. Less chip sensitivity will yield a different colour rendition or saturation so best to monitor for best results.
