Thanks, Chad Rego Steev Dinkins January 21st, 2005, 04:22 PM In my opinion, nothing is "too" fine regarding final grind. It just may take you forever to get there from scratch. I believe others have started from course to fine. However, I recommend buying a 1500 GG from Thorlabs (for 55mm ring) or Optosigma (for smaller), and if need be, do just slight final grinding with 3 micron (1500 grit) Aluminum Oxide. Soooooooo much easier. Buy a few GGs in case something goes wrong with your grind. http://www.thorlabs.com/ProductDetail.cfm?DID=6&ObjectGroup_ID=1132&Product_ID=36117 http://www.optosigma.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=OS&Product_Code=pg211&Category_Code=Filters+%26+Apertures Cosmin Rotaru February 9th, 2005, 10:35 AM can someone explain me something: with all the grit/micron/mesh stuff, I don't understand wat should I use. From this conversion table, the 3micorn is actualy 8000grit. the 1500 grit is like 13-14micron: http://www.facetingmachines.com/grit-mesh-micron.shtml |
