the frames I shoot are usually numbered IMG_XXXX.CR2 by my 20D. Suddenly, however, the frames are numbered _MG_XXXX.CR2.

Does anyone know why this could have happened? Should I be worried? Can it be undone? The manual is no help in this case.

When you change your color space to Adobe RGB the files are named in this way so you can easily recognize them. This is a new convention that many are adoptiing, not just a Canon thing.
