HI, All.

I've just purchased two batteries from B&H for my new (used) VX200

CTA - NPF-750 (new - $49.95)
Sony NPF-750 (used - $19.95)

obviously I was trying to save some cash but make some better choices - 1 Sony certified and 1 non-certified, etc.

Have I made poor choices? Will I find the used Sony battery will be less than adequate - there's such a huge price difference from buying one new. Will I find the CTA incompatible?

What do you think about my crazy choices here?

No experience with CTA. That looks like a pretty good price on the Sony, but I don't know how comfortable I'd be with a used battery. Do they make any claims as to how many hours? These batteries have finite lives (number of charge cycles) and are also affected if they're plugged into a charger too long evidently.

I bought two new sony NP-F960's when I got my VX-2000. After two years of very light use one of them died (would not take a charge). I suspect this is due to the fact that I left the camera plugged into the charger for extended periods when not using it. Or it might have just died for some other reason? But of course you don't have a lot to lose for $20 either :-)

My only other comment would be that you should consider the NPF-960's since they give you incredible results in the VX-2000, around 8 hours of use with the LCD panel on.

Sony has some newer upgrades in these NP-F batteries. At Batteries Plus I got a Sony NP-F570 (upgrade of the NP-F550), for $60. Batteries Plus gives you an over-the-counter exchange guarantee for one year. The 570 gives me a fully-charged reading of about 140 minutes recording time on my VX2100.
